For their summer mission trip for 2016, the youth traveled to Wilderness Camping and Retreat Center in Lawson MO from June 5th through June 8th. Upon our arrival, they had a short training on camp safety and went straight to work cleaning cabins that would be filled with campers the next day. Each day they woke at 6:00am and went to work by 7:00am. They washed more dishes than they could count, chopped veggies, baked assorted foods, served meals, set up and washed tables, mopped, cleaned bathrooms, power washed outdoors, weed whacked, pool deck prepped, and pool cleaned. They alsohad daily meetings to go over tasks, attended worship, had their own devotions, danced when possible and even swam a couple of times. Then it was back to work; clearing off trailers, loading hay bales, washing lake equipment, clearing the camp labyrinth, trimming trees, cleaning MORE cabins, shooing away snakes and clearing hiking trails. Ask our awesome adult leaders that went along; JJ, Kristie and Rick were amazing and always positive with the youth volunteers. They ended their days around 10:00pm and spent an hour just chatting each night.
