The Gift of Comfort

One-hundred and seven people in the community have been given the gift of comfort because of our United Methodist Women (UMW).

On January 18 & 19, UMW created lap robes as gifts for people who reside at Golden Years, Crown Care Center, and ABC Health Center. Over a total of 12 hours, the ladies cut flannel, sewed edges, and tacked on yarn to make dozens of lap robes.

Creating lap robes is an annual mission for UMW. In September, 67 birthing kits were shipped to our partner church in Mutarara, Mozambique. Each October, UMW makes Christmas stockings as a part of missions, and twice yearly, rummage sales raise funds in order to support organizations such as Della Lamb, Shepherd’s Staff Food Pantry, Spofford Home, InterServ, summer camp for HUMC youth, and much more.

Good News from Mutarara UMC

The well is dug and the water is running at our covenant church, Mutarara UMC, in the Sofala District of Mozambique, Carol Kreamer, Mozambique Initiative Coordinator, reported just before Christmas. What a wonderful gift for the people in that congregation! Pledges for the full amount of the well , $14,807 have been made. The United Methodist Women pledged $1,000 toward the cost of the well. Other churches and individuals have pledged the remaining amount. More importantly, people have responded to God's call to help those in need. Thanks be to God.

Mozambique Covenant Partner, Mutarara United Methodist Church Update

After Mozambique Initiative Coordinator, Carol Kreamer, informed us about the Mutarara congregation’s need for Bibles and hymnals, the UMW donated the requested amount of $265. This example of extravagant generosity allows that small church to read and sing God’s word. The water source for the church is about fifteen miles away. The cost to dig a well is about $14,000. The conference has not yet received commitments for the total amount needed for the well. Please keep the Mutarara UMC in your prayers.
